DLRN x Gemini Club at NOTW Saturday night.
O A K L A N D —- Jon is spinning tomorrow at The Layover. Make sure to peep last week’s FiveForFriday Breaking Bad Tribute.
Last week’s FiveForFriday was a support group for those of us suffering from withdrawals from one of the greatest television shows ever to grace the tube of boobs, BREAKING BAD.
One of the most underrated aspects about the show was its electic soundtrack and selection from Music Supervisor Thomas Golubić . Golubić , who previously DJed for Los Angeles’ KCRW, also provides tunes for AMC’s other smash hit, “The Walking Dead”. Each track in last week’s mix was featured in the show at one point.
The mix opens up with Vince Guaraldi’s “Ginza Samba”. Guaraldi’s work should be familiar to you if you’ve ever watched a Peanuts cartoon in your lifetime. The Peddlers’ “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever” comes in at second. The Peddlers were a British rock trip from the 1960s out of Manchester. “Crystal Blue Persuasion” by Tommy James & The Shondells might be the most well known song on the mix. While many listeners originally thought the song was advocating the use of crystal meth, James has maintained that the song was inspired by his readings of the Book of Revelations. Darando comes in fourth in the mix with his 1973 single, “Didn’t I”. Sadly he passed earlier this year in Sacramento. The last song on the mix is Marty Robbins’ “El Paso”, referenced in the series finale.
